Meet The Artist

Barry McCann is Australian bred. His love for drawing from an early age is what made him gravitate towards experiencing an artistic arousal. McCann went on to further explore the unexplored after enrolling into an introductory water colour course at the Canberra School of Arts, 1990.

His insatiable thirst for art, helped him deep-dive into his studies. The discovery of John Singer Sargent’s book proved to have a subtle and significant influence. McCann was accompanied by many leading artists who helped build his craft and confidence, which spilled over into turning professional in 2000.

McCann’s subject matter usually includes an animated object with dramatic lighting. The constant challenge of portraying the illusion of form and movement, alongside a narrative is what excites him. His quest for compellingly conveying light is paramount, by fusing a traditional and modern look.

After exploring different mediums, his art gradually evolved. He transitioned from a passionate water-colourist to someone who was liberated by the offerings of oil paint. His journey from then on led him to modernity, with exclusiveness in acrylics.

Animals became the focal point because of their versatility in appearance, character, and behaviour. McCann feels compelled to portray Mother Nature’s flamboyant work of art.

Every piece of art uniquely undertakes an adventure of its own. It is handcrafted using the very best of art materials right from putting paint to purpose, up until the completed piece is signed and sealed. With over 35 rich art producing years of experience, McCann eyes an existence that captivates creativity in unimaginable, thought-provoking ways.
