Energy Series
Creating an image with more vitality was the catalyst in this series. It was not that long ago when a bird flew straight into our window. It happened to be a thrush, fallen flat, hardly showing any signs of life. While I held it in my hands, it evoked a random thought in my mind, which drew a direct parallel between this immobile bird and my paintings. It got me thinking if my paintings appeared equally lifeless.
Through my painting, I wanted to arouse the feeling of energy. Energy can neither be created, nor destroyed but continues to exist by changing from one form to another. Energy can be seen in different forms. Electrical energy can be seen as light, mechanical energy can be seen as motion, while thermal energy can be seen as heat.
These paintings depict my interpretation of motion, light and heat. The energy I wish I could see!
The subject, depicted in motion, is surrounded with different effects and techniques that bring it to life through the illusion of light and heat. This series took on a celestial feel with what can be interpreted as rays of light, stars, sunspots, quasars, supernovas, along with flames, smoke and ice, without which life on earth wouldn’t be possible. The collection of paint daubs on the canvas is a substitute for the amazing image I envision.
As a footnote to the story of the little thrush who hit the window, he is now a healthy father in residence with his family stationed around our studio and house.
